About

Hu Jiawen is a Chinese photographer based in Beijing. Growing up in Huizhou, Guangdong, Jiawen has taken her inspiration from capturing motion picture and still imagery from a young age as the surroundings reformed, developed and expanded around her. Taking her passion for photography further, Jiawen developed her first key works while studying her MA in Photography overseas in the UK. Gaining inspiration from the visually acute nuances of humans and nature, Jiawen created her first exhibited and published project The Harmony Between Nature & Humans. Utilising her experimental vision with a macro lens, Jiawen embraced the vivid, intricate focal perspectives of texture and colour within organic matter. Jiawen’s work was exhibited in the university gallery and published in a limited edition photo book.

Embracing her passion for exploration, Jiawen has travelled extensively throughout Europe and Asia, absorbing diverse cultures and environments, channelling these experiences into her photography, capturing moments in various formats. Launching her alias Mars No.2 enabled Jiawen to experiment further and present her emotional and psychedelic output in her works Lucid Dream, featuring in print onZine Photo Volunteer House plus in exhibitions in Tokyo and Seoul.

Now based in Beijing, Jiawen is the Education manager for Three Shadows Photography Art Centre.
